I've been contemplating this post for several weeks. The passing of one year to the next is usually celebrated with cake and ice cream. This year I found myself pondering. I've been taking my walk with a glass of port. (Paul on Mad About You) take a drink of port, take a walk, and the answers will come to you
The past year seemed a whirlwind to me and I struggled to make sense of it. In the end I've decided it wasn't a whirlwind, but rather a hurricane. And this hurricane had a life and strength of it's own. There were rolling clouds, torrential rains, fierce winds and inevitably the calm after the storm where you are left to find what is damaged and what has withstood the storm and risen above the rest.
This year was filled with many "firsts" and probably more than a few "lasts." It was also punctuated by some fabulous concerts and a lot of cake baking.
However, I feel weathered by these storms. I suppose some years you age more than others and it all balances out in the end. Perhaps once this battle of the never-ending pneumonia ends, I will regain some of my youth.
My resolution for the next year is to try to harness the hurricane. I can't control what comes at me, but I can control my reaction. I can board up the windows and hoard supplies in preparation. If need be I can evacuate (lying on a beach sounds lovely).
Cheers to the fresh beginning of a new year.
